Writing exercise: Sunday Best

After a little break from writing, brought on by story exhaustion after churning out a new piece of flash fiction every week for more than six months, I have been inspired to pick up the pen (or start tapping my keyboard again) by a) a deadline and b) a cool little writing exercise devised by Jodi Cleghorn at Write Anything.

I am not very good at narrative writing (my strong suit is dialogue), so this 10-line exercise was great in making me sit down and give it a go. I’ve recorded it on Audioboo, so give ‘Sunday Best’ a listen and you can be the judge of how I did. While you’re in the mood, check out Jen Brubacher’s story too.

Well, I think you’ve done quite well with this exercise, Lily. Really made me envision the woman in her Sunday best, and feel the heat (sweat trailing down between her breasts).

You have a lovely voice. 🙂
